What happens when you break the game before you even log in?
Jace Beckett was just doing his job. As a cynical QA tester for the world’s biggest VRMMO, World’s End Online, his final task was simple: “See what happens if you max a dump stat.” He chose Luck.
Then the power went out. The pod glitched. And he woke up—trapped—inside a world of blue grass and two suns, with no logout button and a character sheet that reads:
Luck: 99 (MAX)Class: [ERROR]Anomaly Status: [OBSERVED]
At first, it’s hilarious. A piano falls from a clear sky to crush the monster about to kill him. He trips into epic loot. He accidentally wins duels against optimized players by dodging bird poop. He’s the luckiest man in any world, and he’s gathering a party whether he likes it or not:
Levi, a min-maxing strategist whose perfect plans are ruined by Jace’s chaotic existence.
Calla, a lore-obsessed scholar who thinks Jace is a “narrative anomaly” worth studying.
Finn, a scrawny NPC rogue who’s just along for the ride (and the loot).
But luck isn’t free. For every win, the system balances the books.
When Jace humiliates a rival in a tavern brawl, a bakery burns down “by accident” in another part of town. When he loots a legendary mushroom, a bridge collapses miles away. When he stumbles his way through a dungeon boss, a landslide buries a farm.
This is the Karmic Ledger. And Jace’s debt is growing.
Now, with his newfound party, he must navigate a world where his very presence glitches reality, draw the attention of gods who treat fate as a casino, and outrun a secret society that sees him as a virus to be purged—all while the system itself is preparing a receipt with his name on it.
Balance Due. Payment: Imminent.
