In a hidden Appalachian bunker in 1987, Project MB164—a secret government attempt to weaponize psychic mediums—goes catastrophically wrong. Subject MB-164, a Vietnam veteran with dense traumatic memories, is infused with experimental serums. Instead of control, his mind fractures: two chitinous pincers erupt from his back, eyes vanish, and he becomes Echo—an artificial anomaly driven by insatiable hunger. Echo feeds in two ways: passive mental draining (nightmares and memory siphoning from distance) and messy physical consumption (tearing flesh, crushing skulls, no clean kills). He mimics voices to lure prey, scales ceilings for ambushes, and adapts fast—using stolen memories to bypass security and perfect his mimicry. He escapes in a brutal massacre, slaughtering guards, cleaners, and staff on his way out. Outside, he follows memory scents through rain-soaked woods, drains and devours a hunter and his grandson, then a Latino family in their sleep—stacking road routes, hospital knowledge, and power grid schematics. Fueled and evolved, Echo charges a power station, smashes through gates, slaughters workers, and destroys the grid—plunging Spring Water Valley into total blackout. In the darkness, he heads for the hospital overlooking the town, pincers quivering for fresh trauma. A relentless, iterative predator born from human arrogance. Every death makes him stronger.
