The Quanta-B Tales

A group of travellers are aboard the starliner Canterbury, all on their way to Vail, which lies at the hub of the Nine Galaxies. As the journey through 'hyspace' will take three nights the narrator suggests each of them tells their tale. On the first evening we hear the tales of the Smuggler, the Merchant, the Assassin and the Knight. On the second we have the tales of the Miner, the Slaver, the Scout and the Spy. The third night features tales by the Bounty Hunter, the Pirate, the Mercenary and the Commander. Then, finally we get the tale of the narrator himself. Throughout the tales, and the chapters between them, we begin to learn of an alien race of multi-dimensional beings which many don't even believe exist, but which soon become a very real threat. These 'Veantari' reside in the dimensions beyond hyspace and face an existential crisis, which is that time on their side of the universe is running backwards relative to our own, and at ten times the rate.
