I was unemployed, sleep-deprived, and not in a position to question mysterious job offers. So when I accidentally accepted a position at a government-like department with no listed job scope, no address, and no explanation, I assumed it was a scam. It wasn’t. The department manages a retirement home. For gods. My job isn’t to fight them, worship them, or save the world. It’s to help them move on—quietly, responsibly, and without causing humanity to relapse into dependency. As ancient gods resist, accept, or quietly fade, I learn the uncomfortable truth: gods didn’t disappear because they failed. They retired because they succeeded. This is a slow-burn urban fantasy about mythology, belief, bureaucracy, and growing up—where miracles are rare, endings are gentle, and the hardest part of the job is knowing when you’re no longer needed.
