Trials of life follows Yumiko Hoshino, a young woman from the far-eastern nation of Jinsoku, who journeys west in search of her missing brother. Instead of answers, she finds a continent trapped in an unending cycle of war, famine, and destruction. Naive and unprepared for the cruelty of the West, Yumiko quickly finds herself in conflict with the most powerful guild in the world. Force onto a dangerous path, she becomes entangled in the search for the Staff of serpents, a relic forged by the gods and long lost to the mortal realm. Will she be able to find the mystical tool?
