Tess, whose sharp mind hides a heart the Ministry couldn't quite engineer out of her. Pip, who hides his wounds behind jokes and a coin that never stops spinning. Together they are broken, indebted, and loyal to each other in ways they'd never admit.
Beyond the Spires, the land is changing. The Root. An ancient force, is spreading through territory the Ministry once stripped bare.
When the crew uncovers a relic that could disrupt the Ministry's control, it offers something they've never had before: leverage against the system that owns them. But claiming it means choosing sides in a war between iron and earth, between a future built on progress and one reclaimed by something older than industry.
Caught between the authority of the Iron Spires and the advancing Root, Silas and his crew must decide whether they are just gears in a machine, or the force that finally breaks it.
