At Arclumen Academy, magic isn’t studied.  It’s signed.  Every student earns power the same way: by forming a spirit contract—a binding pact with an otherworldly bonded spirit that becomes the engine of their spellwork. A Knight-Ember for fire. A Tidesage for water. A Warden-Root for life. The stronger the spirit, the steeper the terms. Tuition is paid in coin. Magic is paid in clauses.  Most first-years choose something safe: a compliant spirit with clean rules and predictable growth. Grind ranks. Pass trials. Graduate with a respectable bond and a future that won’t eat you alive.  When Johnny takes the test, the binding circle stutters and the registrar’s ledger writes a name in ink older than the Academy.
