Ren is a down on his luck punk rocker working a dead end job and drinking his time away when the nexus of the multiverse is destroyed. As a world that has never been touched by the system, Earth is chosen as the new nexus, spawning exactly one million portals at random locations across the globe. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately?) for Ren, one of these gateways spawns not just in his home, but directly in the doorway to his bathroom. After drunkenly stumbling into the portal, he doesn't find the porcelain throne he imagined, but instead finds himself chosen as the new gate lord, charged with protecting, maintaining and expanding his portion of the multiversal gate network. Of course, the government is taking none of this lying down, and has laid siege to his house in hopes of colonizing the uninhabited world he's connected to, leaving him trapped inside a magical defensive shield with only his wits plus the unique magical systems and resources of multiple universes to weather the storm. With alien threats invading from outside the universe, and mundane threats from inside, can Ren hold the gate, and maybe, in the process, find something to live for? What to expect: -Every universe has its own unique system, and traveling between universes allows you to collect and progress in them. You can keep and still use anything you earned in other systems, but you only progress in the one attached to the universe you're currently in, plus your home universe system  -Earth's unique system is about upgrading your house to earn bonuses from how cool your furniture is, but if that doesn't interest you, fear not, the MC will get others, and I'm doing my best to make them genuinely unique and not tied to the standard tropes. (So really he can only progress in the system he's currently standing in since you can't really upgrade furniture from another dimension) -Numbers, systems, and progression. I'll do my best not to overwhelm everyone, but the first couple chapters will involve setup of the systems and starter build choices. I'll settle in for mostly character and combat focus after that, so bear with me. -Nation building, world build, house building. I've got lots of ideas for the future ;) -A focus on making Ren an emotionally complex character. He's not just another mindless self-insert power fantasy character. He has a past, a future, dreams, goals, memories of meaningful events in his life, and motivations beyond my personal obsession with character build science. what not to expect: -Romance. I can write it, and I'm not permanently discounting it, but I'm not really going out of my way for it, and he starts out cut off from the rest of humanity, so I doubt the story will naturally land there until that's resolved. If I do go that direction it'll be a subtle, slow burn. -Sex scenes. If we do get there somehow, you get fades to black. As my editor my wife has decreed that I'm terrible at sex scenes and I should avoid them. I wholeheartedly agree. XD -The standard kill things for xp system. I've been stockpiling less standard system ideas for years, and this is an experiment in combining them into a single narrative. -I tagged sensitive content but I won't go for anything super dark. (no mentions of sa and the like) -AI of any kind. all artwork and text is created manually by me -a patreon. I'm not really looking to monetize this and if my patreon link is still up, it's attached to other projects. (Which I haven't really worked on in a while.
