Chapter 1 for a three-book chronicle series. There is an entire story, world, and realm before, after, and surrounding this chapter. But would love to see if this writing style and world-building are working or not. Thank you very much, readers. The synopsis: The second chapter of the novel. Set in the world of Caladria, where the magic of Vei, both the pure kind and the more common form constructed from humans, is highly valued. Our protagonist Vivarie wishes to join the fleet. The Princess she meets is not at all what she seems. In the following chapters, we meet Vivarie’s love interest Kit, we encounter the cruelty of Prince Colius. His meek younger brother, Tobi, and dazzling older brother, Dane. Every good Caladrian citizen knows the Princess is the heir of the vanquished Kingdom of Nytheria, in which the Nytherians use of Shadowvei magic sealed their demise. The city of Cindrael, claims there was no other choice but to eliminate Nytheria. Throughout the novel, Vivarie doesn't know who to trust, let alone herself. Her reluctance to follow her skillset in languages, somehow leads to a mission for the Tafodwills (Tafod meaning tongue in welsh). It is here she encounters Tam, Kit’s younger brother and much more than meets the eye with him. There is a prophecy, like any good story. But the end is another beast entirely, quite literally. The following chapters sees the Princess in another light, in darkness, screaming from night terrors. Viv's encounter with her in this chapter, means Vivarie is the Princess’ first choice for a guard. Which brings her all the more closer to danger, love, and truth. There are magical gardens of Knotwitches, rebellions in Dagger city, unlikely alliances, and gold flecks in the eyes of those who have not mastered the Sight, therefore never mastering their own Vei. And they are to be feared above all else. And suddenly Vivarie Gould finds herself at the helm of a ship she never expected. Chartering waters that will determine the fate of all of Caladria, and to never assume anything is what it seems, that is a truth too feared to be uttered.
