The Portal Chest

Grant Shaw sees himself as a failure within the modern system. After being fired from his logistics job, he fell into a pit of frustration and shame—unable to pull himself together. His mother finally sent him to be a helping hand at his great-aunt’s grocery store. To his surprise, Grant found a quiet, peaceful life under the roof of Rosary Shaw, his generous great-aunt. For a year and a half, he lived in a carefree bubble, not realizing the time was borrowed. Soon, a series of misfortunes struck. The sanctuary of the store teetered on bankruptcy, and his great-aunt grew weaker by the day. Seeing the accumulated weight of his own neglect, Grant had no choice but to finally act. But it seemed too late, as continuous unfortunate events descended upon him with cruel timing. On one of his darkest days, Grant accidentally discovered a magical chest that, upon entering, sent him and the items within to another world. There, he found not a paradise, but a grimdark fantasy world that offered its people barely any hope. Yet, Grant did not see an opportunity for escape. Instead, he saw a trade route for valuable items between the two worlds. His goal is not to perform heroic deeds, but to commit a selfish act: to save himself and the people he loves. Hey everyone!
