With Chris leading the way, the two are determined to cross the frontier, but it will not let them pass easily. Lost gods, past mistakes and founding kingdoms stand in the way.  The frontier is cruel, and the sword he drew always attracts unwanted attention, becoming his greatest strength, and his greatest weakness. In a place that demands sacrifice, Ember will come to understand that if he isn't killed by the frontier, he will be shaped by it, and the result may not be what he, or anyone, wants.
