The Phoenix Glitch

The Phoenix Glitch

Urban FantasyProgressionCultivationTragedyAction

Arthur Hale's body has been killing him since birth. Hyperhidrosis that soaks through his clothes in seconds. Malabsorption that leaves him hollow no matter how much he eats. A crooked finger that won't straighten. Eyes full of floaters that turn every bright light into scattered chaos. In Gray City, where magic is returning to Earth and the strong hunt for power in the mountains, Arthur can barely survive climbing seven flights of stairs. When he discovers a pattern in the "magical herb" sightings—thermal anomalies along fault lines that his above-average intelligence maps with obsessive precision—he makes a desperate choice. Die slowly from medical debt and biological failure, or climb a mountain that kills experienced climbers and find out why his body burns from the inside. He finds a Demigod offering salvation. Divine medicine that will "complete what was left unfinished." A cure delivered with compassion and divine authority. It was all a lie. The medicine doesn't heal—it incinerates. Arthur burns alive from the inside out, screaming as the Demigod's mask drops and reveals the cold truth: he was never a chosen one. He was a test subject. The "divine compassion" was just good experimental procedure to ensure compliance. Then the Demigod leaves him to die in the ash. But Arthur survives. Barely. And finds a charred scroll left by a previous victim—one who lived long enough to write down the truth about body cultivation and how to actually use the Phoenix Blood without becoming someone else's research data. Now Arthur has to rebuild himself from the ground up using Primordial nutrients, stolen resources, and pure rational spite. Because in a world where Qi cultivators are emerging and the Demigod's "successful subjects" are still out there, being the failed experiment might be the only advantage he has. He wasn't chosen. He was processed. Time to see what a glitch in the system can actually do.
