The Noise of Memory

"The Noise of Memory" is a sci-fi noir novel by Sean Higgins that explores themes of societal collapse, memory, and corruption within a post-apocalyptic structure known as Quad Central. Life can be hard when you’re a slightly neurotic Thirty-Two-Year-old Inspector born into a post civilization of a societal collapse called The Grouping. That’s why Inspector Thelonius Varta, Theo, uses a variety of treatments to keep him hopeful. Like strolling the walkways of Quad Central to get the vibe of his fellow citizens (treatment one), before he stops at his favorite café to dose himself with his favorite drug of choice, caffeine (treatment two). Unfortunately, a surprise call from his favorite trash talking (third treatment) childhood friend and partner Rayshan Lang, disrupts his first treatment. Rayshan needs to desperately know his whereabouts because their leader in command, Captain Weston Regense, a man steeped in administration is repeatedly asking for him. The Captai, never one to become flustered, is flustered. Which is why he assigns Theo and Rayshan to figure out why there’s a dead civilian body on a rooftop in one of the structures in Area Seven. The crime reported by an elite military unit MIG (Military Industrial Garrison) who have no jurisdiction in the area, but which are overseen by a group that keeps everyone alive, The High Government. For Inspector Theo Varta, life just got harder and he’s going to need a lot more treatments.
