The world has always known that an end is coming. Magic and combat are not luxuries here—they are necessities. From childhood, people are trained to fight, heal, and survive, because history teaches that some catastrophe will one day rise and test the limits of civilization. Five ordinary youths arrive at an academy meant to prepare the next generation for that inevitable trial. None of them are prodigies. None stand out. Their abilities are unremarkable, their paths uncertain, and their futures small. During the academy’s opening ceremony, something goes wrong. A shared vision. A moment that doesn’t belong. And when it ends, each of them bears the same unexplained mark—something no record accounts for and no system recognizes. They are not celebrated. They are not understood. They are simply set aside.
