The story is set in the late 2100s. Society has been stabilized by a few mega-corporations following the ecological and social collapse of previous years. The protagonist, Kristeen—a single mother in the midst of a divorce—is approached by the billionaire Daan for a unique assignment: cataloging an ancient library. Daan is an outspoken opponent of the current system of knowledge monopoly. He uses his wealth and influence to try and transform the established order. Kristeen and Daan soon find themselves confronted with questions that reach far beyond the world’s current power structure, pushing the very boundaries of what it means to be human.
