Ciro Kaskian is a mercenary who spends his days slaying Elderbeasts in the Crux for money. But when he encounters a Shadowfiend who is laying waste to his village, Moltovi, he shatters a primordial seal that was meant to protect the world. In this monumental predicament, he must harness terrifying power from ancient runes as well as trace his own lineage and the secrets that lie in the world's history. Even though these natural calamities have been set free, Ciro quickly finds that mortals themselves are even more dangerous, as he navigates through betrayal, politics, and darkness.
