The Golden Age of Magic is over. The Age of Survival has begun. What are you willing to sacrifice to build a future for the ones you love? August is a stonemason with dirt under his fingernails and a terrifying secret: the earth sings to him. In the gleaming capital of Antheia, his Resonance is a wild, archaic anomaly, one that accidentally destroys the life's work of Arabella of the house Elmsworth, the city's most brilliant aspiring Artificer. But when the lamps of Aether that light their world begin to flicker and die, the mason and the mechanic are forced into a desperate alliance. A renegade scholar has uncovered a truth the Crown is trying to bury, the magic that powers their civilization is running dry. August and Bella must bridge the divide between magic and machine. They must learn to trust the one person they hate most. For when the lights finally run out and the earth remembers how to settle, will August be strong enough to hold up the sky, or will the weight of a dying world crush the only heart that has ever learned to love?
