Daydreamer
by spaceghostess
Yumi, a demon saintess raised in isolation, survives the destruction of her village only to discover she's too valuable to kill. Decades within temple walls left her ignorant to the world—and the worlds—beyond them. Her powers were repressed. Her life, controlled.
Now she's a prisoner in a foreign court where even kindness feels like a weapon at her throat. The crown prince is dying. Only she can save him. Survival means learning to trust the people who destroyed everything she knew, for better or worse—and Yumi's not sure that's something she can do.
A tale of power, deception, and unexpected connections in a world where demons, spirits and humans collide.
A story of a long, long time.
Daydreamer is a slow burn that I like to describe as enemies-to-friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-frenemies-to-lovers story. It takes place over the course of hundreds of years and three different dimensions. Romance isn't the focus, but human (err, demon?) connection is. A lot of its system is proprietary, and may not fit definitions you're used to.
Content warnings: Graphic violence, themes of trauma, descriptions of gore and abuse.
ヾ(•ω•`)o <( Daydreamer is on break while the second draft is refined—with an estimated 54,000 more words and a whole new arc! If you enjoy the rough, keep an eye out for the relaunch later this year!)
